THE CIRCULAR STARTUP

Do you have a business idea that could reduce or redefine consumption?

The Circular Startup is an 18-month programme supporting those who are passionate about creating circular solutions to improve their communities.

WHAT IS A CIRCULAR ECONOMY?

Our current system is not sustainable for businesses, people or the planet.

Circular economy is a powerful model of principles and activities that aim to keep the value of resources, materials, components, and products for as long as possible in the economy.

The circular model aims to redefine growth, focusing on positive society-wide benefits that build economic, natural, and social capital.

EXAMPLES OF CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Repurposing & Redistributing

Giving a second life to products such as using bicycle parts to build low-cost bikes, or updating old laptops to offer affordable technology to schools.

Reimagining

Adopting innovative approaches to existing materials to make new products, such as surplus textiles to make clothing, or scaffolding boards from construction sites to make furniture.

Innovative Long-Life Solutions

Designing products that last and can be easily repaired, reused or maintained. For example, smartphones that allow users to repair defective parts or upgrade their camera resolution.

Renting Instead of Buying

Leasing and renting products so that the provider is in charge of their maintenance, repair and recycling, while the user still benefits from the product, such as renting tools for home DIY.

Community Sharing

Creating sharing platforms to maximise the value of unused products and services, through initiatives like toy libraries or ride-sharing, to reduce consumption and foster community connections.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

The Circular Startup is looking for applicants:

✔️ Driven to create circular solutions

✔️ Based in London (ideally Islington, Camden, Tower Hamlets, Newham, or Hackney)

✔️ Aged 18+

It’s our ambition to increase diversity in both the entrepreneurship and climate space. This programme will therefore prioritise applications from members of minority ethnic and LGBTQIA+ communities, refugees and asylum seekers, and people without post-secondary education.

The Circular Startup is a fully-funded initiative with a small participation fee that will be returned for investment into your project as milestones are reached. We don’t want the fee to be a barrier for anyone to participate, so please get in touch to discuss a personalised option.
