FuckUp Nights: Conversations about failures and other things

LESSONS FROM ENTREPRENEURS WHO’VE FAILED AND SURVIVED

FuckUp Nights is a global movement where stories of failed businesses and projects are told, questioned and celebrated! In each FuckUp Night 3 or 4 fuckupreneurs share their stories of failure including:

  • What was their project?
  • What did they do wrong?
  • What did they learn?
  • What would they do differently?

At the end of each story the audience asks questions. All accompanied by beer and good friends.

SPEAKERS

Jon Finn

Jon started in the film industry as a production manager then line producer on several feature films and major television dramas.
In 1999 he produced his first film, Billy Elliot and in 2000 won the NOVA award from the Producers’ Guild of America, an exceptional honour awarded to an outstanding achievement by a new producer. Jon’s next film was My Little Eye, directed by Marc Evans, which although a very different film to Billy Elliot, again achieved critical and box-office success.
Billy Elliot was his first foray into theatre, but since the award-winning success of Billy Elliot the Musical in London, he has gone on to produce the show to critical acclaim around the world. Jon is currently working on a musical production of Bridget Jones Diary with Working Title, Helen Fielding and Lily Allen.
Jon also has his own film production company ‘Chewing Monkey Ltd’.
In 2015 Jon Produced Billy Elliot – The Musical Live which played in 400 cinemas in UK. This screening came in at No1 at the UK and Ireland box office for the weekend it opened. A first for event cinema.

Umang Shankar – @highlandibex

I am a Mechanical Engineer by my graduate education and passion and a business developer by my career. I have worked in diverse industries from Agrotech, Automobiles and recently Adventure Tourism, in capacity I have worked from Channel Sales Consulting and Management, Sales Planning and Forecasting, Product Planning and Marketing to Business Model Development.
I saw a business opportunity that there are people who want the bikes but can’t afford the big bikes. So we started modifying the bikes. The project had 3 people in total with 2 venture capitalists extra. But talking about bikes and working for them is quite different. I ended up selling everything but love never went down and Highland-Custom is now rated as one of the best niche custom shops in India.
What do I do now ? With 3 friends I started an adventure tourism company, MAKEMYRIDE where we take people on adventure trips around India. It has been there for 2 years now and I am here in London trying to expand the market and learn more about business, for that I am doing MBA at CASS Business School.
