This workshop forms part of a series of 3 short, interactive sessions that aim to improve your self-knowledge and develop awareness of how you and others communicate. It aims to provide you with some simple ideas to further your development as a business leader, whether you are established or starting out on your entrepreneurial journey. The workshops can be followed together or each as a stand-alone.

Understanding Your Professional Identity

As entrepreneurs, we are often encouraged to consider how we appear to others – e.g. ‘Brand Identity’. However, identity plays a significant part in how we make sense of our work, ourselves and others.

Being an entrepreneur is a highly social role, and in social entrepreneurship understanding your self and others is critical to influencing how society behaves and develops. Knowing that you can change (and what you can change) is extremely powerful and one of the key things that you can change and influence is your relationships with people.

This workshop considers identity as an instrument of change and aims to leave you with a clearer idea of your professional identity in order to develop a more confident and purposeful approach to business.

By the end of the session you should be able to:
  • Identify certain social and cultural influences that make up your professional identity
  • Compare / contrast your influences with those of others
  • Describe how your professional identity might impact on how you perform your role (what makes you effective, what drives you?)
