Member Spotlight: The Amélia Project
5 March 2015 - Impact Hub Member

Impact Hub member Fernando Pinho will sleep rough, confined to the terminal buildings of 60 airports in more than 40 countries around the world over 60 days to raise awareness and fundraise for a social enterprise that is a game changer for small charities.

To raise awareness of their fundraising campaign, Fernando Pinho, the project founder, will live for 60 days in 60 different airports in more than 30 countries. He will allow the general public to decide where and when he goes next!

Traveling with only a small cabin bag, Fernando won’t be allowed to leave the terminal buildings of the 60 airports, forcing him to sleep rough. He can only fly from one airport to the next if the campaign reaches the daily fundraising target. Every day and in real time, the public can review Fernando’s progress, determine his journey and interact with him through social media.

From this autumn, The Amélia Project will make an aeroplane available for free to small charities and people in need across Europe, Africa and the Middle East. This will save charities thousands of pounds that can be invested directly in their causes, allow them to respond more rapidly, reaching the heart of affected locations, and help them to achieve their missions.

The Amélia Project will fundraise on crowdfunding platform, Indiegogo, allowing everyone to be part of it.  From the 3rd of March, the public can join the project as a Founding Supporter, help us to prepare a mission and even be part of the crew. Supporters can have their names painted on the plane.
