OUR PARTNERS

“Impact Hub Kings Cross has an excellent track record of delivering impact and growth for social enterprises within the food sector. (…) We are proud to fund a programme that will deliver significant social impact and enterprise growth within a sector that is in need of new sustainable approaches.”

– Joseph Ray, Social Investment and Innovation Advisor at People’s Postcode Lottery

FOCUS AREAS

Our interest and expertise in the ethical food sector stems from our Food Talks event series, which started in 2015. Building on this, we then created the Feeding the City programmes, run in a start-up and accelerate format.

FOOD

We want to improve diversity in social enterprise and remove barriers to entry. In 2020 we led the Build Back Better Hackathon, open to everyone, with partners including Social Enterprise UK, B Lab UK, and London & Partners.

INCLUSION

We aim to tackle the climate crisis by supporting sustainable ideas. In 2020 we launched Environment Talks, as well as co-leading the London Climathon with Imperial College London, Terra Institute and Moonshot.

CLIMATE

In response to Covid-19, we ran a Resilience Programme with support from the People’s Postcode Lottery. In 2020 we teamed up with the British Heart Foundation to lead a charity innovation hackathon.

INNOVATION

WHO WE'VE SUPPORTED

Through our business support programmes, we have actively engaged a range of entrepreneurs who often face barriers to participation:

FEMALE FOUNDERS

Our approach means we attract a large number of women to our programmes, with up to 87% in New Roots and 60% in Feeding the City Start Up.

MIGRANTS & REFUGEES

They were supported in the first cohort of New Roots, powered by GoDaddy. The programme developed their entrepreneurial abilities, networks and integration.

BLACK, ASIAN AND MINORITY ETHNIC GROUPS

Our second New Roots cohort in 2020 supported aspiring entrepreneurs from Black Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds to set up their business.

PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED HOMELESSNESS

In 2020 we partnered with the homelessness charity Crisis to run Next Steps, which offers their members start-up funding, mentoring and workshops.

YOUNG PEOPLE

Launched in 2021, our Step Forward programme, has supported 18-25-year-old women with early-stage business ideas. In 2019 we ran a sustainability challenge for research students.

CASE STUDIES

BANK OF AMERICA

Bank of America powers our Feeding the City programmes, which have supported 300 participants to start and grow 30 ethical food businesses.

We have been collaborating with Impact Hub since 2018 – supporting its launch in the UK and its expansion to Germany this year. Along with funding, our employees have been involved in the selection of enterprises and mentoring entrepreneurs, helping them to develop viable, sustainable solutions to tackle our current, unsustainable food chain. We look forward to our continued partnership and driving further progress in this space.

CRISIS UK

We have partnered with Crisis UK to deliver a programme supporting people from homeless backgrounds to launch a business. Building on a successful pilot scheme, Next Steps provides start-up funding for potential businesses, alongside educational workshops and mentoring. Over 9 months, participants are supported to develop and launch their ideas with expert knowledge and resources offered by Impact Hub King’s Cross.

Just want to thank the team for opening up this workshop, which in my view is very important and very encouraging for us people who have their hearts set to obtain a dream. Thank you all so very much.

WHAT OUR PARTNERS SAY

“Our members have seen real value from their engagement with the Next Steps programme’s educational workshops and business mentoring. It’s enabling our members to develop their ideas further, kickstart their self-employment journey and feel more confident in earning a sustainable income.”

Lloyd Francis, Changing Lives Grants Coordinator at Crisis UK

“Taking part in the New Roots program as a workshop host was a brilliant and rewarding experience. It was lovely to meet so many new people and learn about their businesses, and be able to share knowledge to help them get online and get found. The support from the staff at Impact Hub was fantastic, and it was a really valuable opportunity to get involved with. I would definitely take part again!”

– Becki Crossley, GoDaddy talent and workshop facilitator

“A sustainable, local and healthy food system has never felt so important as it does today and so we at the Mark Leonard Trust are delighted to be supporting the Feeding the City Programme and their amazing work catalysing and nurturing the sustainable food buinesses of tomorrow”

– Mark Sainsbury, Restaurateur, hotelier and founder of the Sustainable Restaurant Association
